Rationale

The University of the Philippines HARONG, a duly recognized socio-civic organization of students from the Province of Camarines Sur and the Cities of Naga and Iriga, is committed to serve Camarines Sur, the University and the country. With the UP Harong Acadfest already instituted for Camarines Sur high school students, the Organization has also come up with a major activity for UP Diliman.

This newly initiated event called the HARONG NIN DUNONG QUIZ primarily aims to gather Iskolars ng Bayan for a friendly and interactive quiz-game contest that gives ample emphasis on Philippine and UP cultures. The contest further hopes to help promote, build, and maintain a culture of academic excellence among UP organizations and students in general. Students from different regions and ideals would converge for one good fight. Finally, the HARONG NIN DUNONG QUIZ: TAGISAN SA DILIMAN is established to recognize and popularize the nature of UP Diliman as the harong nin dunong—home of wisdom—in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.

      3. Teams who finish this round will move to the next level.
    • ACROSS THE BOARD
      1. There will be 10 questions about anything that falls under the categories/ fields stated above. Each question shall correspond to a letter in the word CROSSOVERS. The first question shall correspond to letter C, the second to R, and so on. Teams shall use bluebooks as answer sheet.
      2. Each correct answer earns a team one (1) point.
      3. The corresponding letter is a hint to the answer to the question as the correct answer contains such a letter. For example, the first question corresponds to the letter C. It follows then that the answer to the question contains the letter C. A board containing the word “crossovers” arranged vertically with blanks crossing each of the letters of the word horizontally shall be displayed. In short, this is an acrostic-type of quiz.
      4. The three (3) lowest-scoring teams shall be eliminated from the HARONG NIN DUNONG QUIZ.
      5. Teams who finish this round will move to the next level.

Teams shall use bluebooks as answer sheet.
      2. Scores are back to zero. Each correct answer earns a team one (1) point except when rule c of this level applies.
      3. A team can already guess the mystery WORD after the 3rd, 5th, and 7th questions. Teams will not be allowed to guess after the other questions have been read.
      4. The quizmaster shall ask all teams who among them would make a guess after the 3rd, 5th and 7th questions. A member of a team that wishes to guess the WORD shall be asked to raise his/her hand. Teams that choose to guess shall be approached by members of UP Harong.
      5. The teams that wish to guess the WORD shall write their guess on their bluebooks, at the line/row of either 3rd, 5th or 7th answer, whichever is applicable.
